작가노트-여행에 대하여
나의 작업은 여행에서 시작되지만 단순한 이동의 기록에 머물지 않는다. 작업실은 오랜 시간 눈과 마음에 담아온 풍경을 되새기고 다시 펼쳐내는 또 하나의 여행지이며 기억과 감정이 겹겹이 쌓인 내면의 공간이다.
나는 남편과 함께 한국뿐 아니라 세계 여러 지역을 여행하며 수많은 풍경을 스케치해 왔다. 미국 네바다와 유타, 요세미티를 비롯한 다양한 지역을 가로지른 경험은 나의 작업 세계에 중요한 전환점이 되었다. 낯선 자연과 풍경 속에서 삶과 죽음 그리고 존재의 의미를 더욱 깊이 사유하게 되었고 이는 이후 작품 세계의 중요한 토대가 되었다. 내 작품 속 풍경은 특정 장소의 재현이 아니다. 여행 중 마주한 순간들은 기억 속에서 숙성되고 감정과 시간의 층위를 통과하며 새로운 이미지로 다시 태어난다. 나는 선형적으로 흘러가는 크로노스의 시간이 아닌 기억 속에서 특별한 의미를 지닌 카이로스의 순간들을 화면 위에 불러낸다. 특히 여행지에서 경험한 장소들과 깊이 교감하며 그것들을 ‘토포필리아(Topophilia, 장소사랑)’의 공간으로 변화시킨다. 내면에 각인된 장소들은 자유로운 상상력과 만나 자연이 지닌 강인한 생명력과 신비로운 에너지를 드러낸다. 화면 속 자연은 단순한 풍경이 아니라 존재와 시간 그리고 기억이 응축된 정신적 공간이 된다.
나는 동양미학의 전통적 관점에 주목한다. 외형적 재현보다 대상 안에 깃든 생명력과 기운을 포착하고자 한다. 꽃을 그릴 때 꽃의 형태가 아닌 꽃이 되어 느끼는 생명의 감각을 표현하듯 풍경 또한 단순한 자연의 모습이 아니라 그 안에 흐르는 존재의 본질을 담아내고자 한다. 이번 전시는 여행을 통해 마주한 세계와 그 세계가 내면에 남긴 흔적에 관한 이야기이다. 현실의 여정에서 출발한 풍경들은 기억과 사유를 거치며 새로운 생명력을 얻고 관람객을 또 다른 내면의 여행으로 안내한다. 화면 위에 펼쳐진 자연은 우리가 잠시 머물다 가는 존재임을 일깨우는 동시에 삶의 아름다움과 경이로움을 다시 바라보게 한다.

Artist Statement - On Travel
My work begins with travel, but it does not remain a mere record of movement. My studio is another travel destination where I revisit and unfold landscapes that have long been held in my eyes and mind, an inner space where memories and emotions are layered.
My husband and I have traveled and sketched countless landscapes not only in Korea but also in various regions around the world. Experiences traversing diverse areas, including Nevada, Utah, and Yosemite in the United States, became a significant turning point in my artistic world. In unfamiliar nature and landscapes, I began to contemplate the meaning of life, death, and existence more deeply, which later became a crucial foundation for my artistic practice. The landscapes in my work are not reproductions of specific places. Moments encountered during travel mature in memory and are reborn as new images, passing through layers of emotion and time. I evoke Kairos moments, which hold special meaning in memory, on the canvas, rather than the linear flow of Chronos time. In particular, I deeply interact with the places experienced during my travels, transforming them into spaces of 'Topophilia' (love of place). These imprinted places, meeting with free imagination, reveal the strong vitality and mysterious energy of nature. Nature on the canvas becomes not just a simple landscape, but a spiritual space condensed with existence, time, and memory.
I focus on the traditional perspective of East Asian aesthetics. I aim to capture the vitality and spirit inherent in the subject rather than its external representation. Just as I express the sensation of life by becoming a flower when painting it, rather than its form, I seek to capture the essence of existence flowing within a landscape, not just its natural appearance. This exhibition is a story about the world encountered through travel and the traces that world left within me. Landscapes originating from a real journey gain new vitality through memory and contemplation, guiding viewers on another inner journey. The nature unfolding on the canvas reminds us that we are transient beings, while also allowing us to re-examine the beauty and wonder of life.
